India’s 12 major ports handled 854.855 million tonnes (mt) of cargo in FY25, marking a 4.34% rise from 819.294 mt in FY24, driven by strong growth in containers, finished fertilisers, and miscellaneous cargo.

Container volumes rose 10% to 13.541 million TEUs, with JNPA accounting for over half. Miscellaneous cargo surged 30.59% to 117.732 mt, while finished fertiliser shipments jumped 20.53%. However, iron ore and coking coal saw steep declines of 18.25% and 9.18% respectively. POL cargo grew 3.46% and other liquid cargo by 5.41%. Deendayal Port recorded the highest growth at 13.43%, handling 150.157 mt. Paradip Port remained the top cargo handler with 150.408 mt, maintaining its lead among the major ports.
